The collection includes 469 groups of objects; these are sets, pairs or individual pieces, and consist of approximately 1000 pieces.

There are 3 distinct strands: 1) British-made cutlery and flatware, 2) Cutlery and flatware found in Britain, 3) Foreign cutlery and flatware that influenced the form, fashions or decoration of British cutlery.
