A decorative table utensil in the form of a bust of an empress.

It is hollow and details of the Empress's jewellery and rich clothing are guilded. She probably does not represent a particular woman but is a generic representation. Four pepper pots were among the treasure found at Hoxne.

Provenance

Discovered by Mr Eric Lawson at Hoxne, Suffolk.
