This collection of pots was discovered in the Chicama Valley on the northwest coast of Peru.

Most of the pots are made from reddish clay (though some are dark grey) and many of them depict figures and animals; some are painted with ornament, animate or abstract, and some musical instruments were also found. Many of the pots have a stirrup-spout and handle, which implies a practical function, but they may have also served a funerary purpose. The pots are the product of the Moche civilisation that flourished in the area between c. 100 BC and c. AD 700.
