The main illustration depicts a costal scene on the island on South Uist in the Outer Hebrides, visited by Strand in 1954. Its title means 'land of marram grass'. The photograph figured in a volume of works by Strand produced with Basil Davidson in 1962, who wrote: 'the photographs seem to have come into existence without the camera; for the great gift and genius of this artist Â… is to be able to place reality before you without demanding that you see the cameraman as well.'
