This work was made when the artist was working inside the National Gallery for an exhibition, 'Encounters' which juxtaposed old master paintings with versions by important living artists.
Freud chose Chardin's 'Young Schoolmistress' as his inspiration.
Acquired 2000 by Marlborough Graphics, London.
