Sphinx and 'Egypt' are prominent on the hilt and scabbard. Blade is corroded on lower third. Pocket watch hallmarked 1772; the portrait engraving is contained in its original gilt frame, c. 1805. Purchased by vendor as part of larger lot at Lawrence Fine Auctioneers, Taunton 2000 for £33,000. The items had come to the auction directly from the family.
