Believed to be an exterior view of Vernet's, a Dieppe Cafe-chantant on the quai Henri IV.

Unusual as seen from outside. Sparkling colours, rich texture and broad application of opaque stains of paint reflect the recent emancipation of Sickert's palette.

Provenance

Before 1955, Forrest Hewit (1871-1956) of Wilmslow, Cheshire; then by descent to the present owner.
