The volumes form a valuable and unusual diary of a Grand Tour.

Hall reports an incident and draws what he sees as events are actually happening. He records, for example, the progress of a coasting voyage from Salerno to Amalfi, with fine pencil sketches of the scenery at frequent intervals. He sketches even as he ascends Vesurius or Etna.

Provenance

Presented by Hall to his sister Frances, 1827; otherwise unknown.
