The style of the relief is rather similar, especially in the treatment of the tree, to that of a representation of the same subject on the West front of the Cathedral at Nimes, which is dated in the second half of the 12th century.
The sculpture is said to have been found during excavations in the Forum at Arles on the site of a Romanesque church.
