Four poster bed with chintz hangings.

The Tilliard family were cabinetmakers in Paris from the end of the sixteenth century. Jean-Baptiste the younger maintained his workshop until the Revolution and received important commissions from the French and Swedish royal families. It was not known for whom the bed was originally made, nor when it first came to England. The bed is first recorded at Temple Newsam in the 1871 inventory.
