The hoard consists of 126 gold aurei and was found with fragments of a pot.

The earliest coins come from the reign of Nero, while the latest specimen dates to the penultimate year of Antoninus Pius's reign, AD 159-60, and the hoard is likely to have been buried shortly thereafter. This was the most important find of gold aurei from Britain since a hoard of 160 aurei was excavated at Corbridge in Northumberland in 1911. Thirteen different rulers and members of the imperial family are represented in the hoard: Nero, Vespasian, Titus (under Vespasian), Domitian (under Vespasian), Vespasian (struck after his death), Domitian, Nerva, Trajan, Plotina (wife of Trajan), Hadrian, Sabina (wife of Hadrian), Antoninus Pius (under Hadrian), Antoninus Pius, Faustina I (wife of Antoninus Pius), Faustina I (struck after her death), and Marcus Aurelius (under Antoninus Pius).
