Lewty's surreal and disturbing images draw on a wide range of deeply subjective experiences.

Before falling asleep each night, and immediately on waking, he records dream images and snatches of text as well as scribbled notes and explanatory maps and diagrams. These notes form the basic vocabulary of the finished work. Images culled from his dream notations are transferred to scraps of tissue paper and then worked up with ink, crayon, and black acrylic. The final image is a combination of the carefully distilled and refined with the accidental. Dream images form a significant part of the Museum's contemporary fine art collection.
