This picture shows Wright Thomas Squire and his sister Charlotte, aged about twelve and four respectively, in front of the family home, Bridge House.

The Squires were a Peterborough family who derived their income from the river as boat owners and grain merchants. By pointing towards his house, the boy is indicating the family's professional and social status.
