Cozens was, according to Constable, the 'greatest genius that ever touched landscape'.

His landscapes are muted in colour and soft in lighting, being predominantly blue-green or blue-grey in tonality. Cetera is undoubtedly among the artist's most powerful compositions, possessing all the sublime grandeur of a mountain scene. Both Girtin and Turner were strongly influenced in their early stages by Cozens' work of this quality.

Provenance

Late Mrs Cecil Keith.
