This work belongs to a later group of pictures in which Pringle found a more poetic conception of subject matter and a more open, transparent execution which is intriguingly close to the pointillism of the Neo-Impressionists.

It is very unlikely that Pringle would have been familiar with this movement at this stage in his career.
