A cameo carved with the head of George IV in profile to the left, the fillet in his hair tied loosely in a bow at the back.

The cameo still has its original fitted leather case. Pistrucci became chief meadallist for Royal Mint in 1828. Designed coins for George III and IV as well as coronation medals for George IV and Queen Victoria and one to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo.

Provenance

Anon Christie's 26.6.80 lot153. The commission for the cameo effigy may have been given to Pistrucci by W.R. Hamilton, Elgin's former secretary.
