He remained until 1883, painting pictures which brilliantly capture the mood of fashionable urban life in late Victorian England. Soon after his arrival in London he was invited to Merseyside by Mrs Catherine Gill, the wife of Chapple Gill a cotton broker, to paint her and her two small daughters. The picture shows thcm at their home, Lowcr Lea at Woolton, Liverpool.
