These handsome pedestals, no doubt made to support sculpture, are probably the work of a professional house-carver rather than a furniture maker.

They are possibly products of the York School of craftsmanship and display many points of similarity with the work of Richard Fisher of York.

Provenance

Sir Lawrence Dundas, or Sir Conyers d'Arcy, last Earl of Holderness from whom Dundas acquired Aske Hall, Richmond, in 1763. The pedestals were in Aske Hall until 1964.
