This ivory is generally attributed to a Winchester workshop on the basis of the similarity of its figure style to that found in a group of late 10th or early 11th century illuminated manuscripts produced at Winchester.
No other ivory carving was believed to reflect the fully-developed Winchester style to such a high degree or in so sculptural a manner.
