1830. A young woman in tears sits beside the recruit; seen in an inner room are an old soldier with a wooden leg, and a woman. This was the last painting completed by Liverseege and is considered to be his finest piece. One of 26 gifts to 19 museums by Sir Alec Martin or Sir Alec and Lady Martin through the Art Fund between 1935 and 1967.
