The collection was presented by Mrs Christine Hanbury in memory of her only son, Pilot Officer John Mackenzie Hanbury RAF, killed in active service in 1939.

A number come from Parisian workshops, and show the variety of styles and techniques of goldsmiths and enamellers of the period. 17 boxes were made in Paris, 17 elsewhere in Europe, and the remaining 11 items are boxes, nécessaires, and caskets, and a repeater watch from various sources.

Provenance

A number are from the collection of CHT Hawkins.
