Japanese Lacquer Snuff-Box, oblong, octagonal shape, lid set with a black Japanese lacquer panel, with gold and hardstones on a black ground, sides and base decorated with sprays of pine, prunus and chrysanthemums.

Provenance

Colonel T. R. Gordon-Duff, sold at Sotheby's 9/7/1956 to Messrs. S.J.Phillips for £1,400 who generously offered to allow the Museum to acquire the box for £1,200 and the firm would subscribe the other £200.
