The How Cup and cover is representative of the transitional phase in English silver as it abandoned the late Gothic in favour of the early Renaissance style.

The flat top of the finial is pounced with the letter 'W', presumably the initial of a former owner of the cup. The cup bears the London hallmarks for 1514, and 'Gemini' maker's mark.
