This depicts an extensive landscape with views over rolling country under a cloudy sky.

To the right is a road with figures and to the left a sandpit. In the foreground, with two donkeys, a cart and horses, two men fill in one of the shallow depressions which formed ponds after heavy rains. The view is from near Whitestone Pond at the top of the Heath looking north, where the salt box can be seen below the spire of Harrow Church.

Provenance

From the collections of William Sharp and Sir Bernard Eckstein.
