Portrait of an unidentified lady of the Elizabethan court.

She is sumptuously dressed and bejewelled, she carries gloves in one hand and a martin-fur flea-catcher in the other. Attributed to Sir William Segar whose career as a herald, culminating in his appointment as Garter King of Arms in 1603. Active mainly in the last decade and a half of the 16th century, painting the Queen, the Earls of Essex and Leicester etc.
