A collection of contemporary Japanese woodblock prints were acquired by the Oriental Museum with the support of the Art Fund and the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation.
The 12 woodblock prints and 11 woodblocks were produced by Nana Shiomi , a contemporary exponent of Japanese woodblock printing.
Shiomi uses the same methods of printing as the traditional ukiyo-e printers, combined with modern techniques and materials.
The prints, which depict traditional Japanese screens, a tea whisk and a tea bowl, were selected to specifically relate to a range of similar artefacts currently held within the museum’s collection.
