In the centre is the Bride of the Canticles, full face, arrayed in a rich green robe with flowing sleeves embroidered in gold and red.

Her veil is fastened back by gold and scarlet aigrettes of Peruvian feather work. Round her are four dark-haired maidens, whose heads encircle and frame her. The figures are half-length, the two outside maidens carrying stems of blossoms, on the left japonica, and on the right a tiger-lily. Before her is a little negro boy, bedecked with a jewelled collar and headband, bearing in his hands a golden vase with roses.
