It was destroyed during the Blitz in 1941 and has never been rebuilt. Ginner was born in Cannes of Anglo-Scottish parents and studied in Paris before settling in London in 1909. Here he joined the associations of artists, led by Sickert which, in 1911, became the Camden Town Group. This painting reveals the deep impression the art of Van Gogh, Gauguin and Cézanne made upon the artist during his studies in Paris in its brilliant use of colour and thickly inlaid paint surface.
