This dish, one of the key pieces for the study of the pictorial style in maiolica, is of exceptional beauty and rarity.

The evolution of this pictorial style is well-understood from the 1520s onwards. It is less clear where the style originated and this dish, with its remarkably early date, stands at the very beginning of its development.
