Anna Boghiguian created the site-specific installation A Meteor Fell from the Sky for the Artes Mundi 8 exhibition held at National Museum Cardiff in 2018-19.

The work explores the business of Tata’s Port Talbot steelworks in South Wales, together with the company’s operations in India.

A large painting of the Port Talbot blast furnace, painted texts, shiny sheets of steel and paper cutouts of workers in both Wales and India all feature in the installation. Themes include the international struggle for employment rights, as well as the role of steel production in global economics and politics.

Born to an Armenian family in Cairo, Boghiguian later studied political science at the American University, Cairo, and visual arts and music at Concordia University in Montreal.

A Meteor Fell from the Sky now joins the strong holdings of work at Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales that relate to the country’s social and industrial history. It is the
first work by Boghiguian to join a British public collection.
