The Allen gift to Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery comprises 16 works of 20th-century art in a range of mediums.

Prominent pieces in the gift include a 1948 lithograph by Pablo Picasso and two lithographs by Patrick Hughes, the British artist famous for his games with perspective. Other works include an oil painting by the Royal Academician Anthony Whishaw and a print by Trevor Sutton (pictured). These works now join Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery’s extensive collection of mainly Western European art, which numbers around 32,000 items dating from the 14th to the 21st centuries.
