Dave Pearson’s series of pencil drawings In the Seven Woods is a joyful representation of the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance.

This English folk ritual, which takes place each year in Abbots Bromley, Staffordshire, dates back to the Middle Ages.

Pearson studied at St Martin’s School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools in London. He developed a visionary style of drawing and painting, often with spiritual or folk themes as his subjects.

Pearson’s In the Seven Woods drawings now enter the collection of the Museum of English Rural Life at Reading University, an institution which exists to collect and exhibit art that reflects life and traditions in the English countryside.
