Mark Neville made this film during his time as an official war artist in Afghanistan in 2011. Bolan Market was filmed in slow motion from inside a British Army ‘Husky’ vehicle, thus giving a soldier’s perspective of the war zone and its local people. Neville studied ne art at Reading University and Goldsmiths College. He now makes work that blurs the boundaries between art and documentary lm and photography. The National Army Museum collects objects and art relating to the British Army since the Civil War. Bolan Market enters the collection as its first example of a film made by an artist about war, and is a poignant record of one of the army’s most highly publicised campaigns.
