Auchinibert is a large detached house outside Killearn, Stirlingshire, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh for Francis J Shand and largely completed in 1908, and the only one of the six houses built to Mackintosh’s designs, that bears Tudor influences.

Sets of architectural drawings in Mackintosh’s own hand are extremely rare, with sets for only two other buildings known to have survived. This set of plans, elevations and a cross-section for Auchinibert have been identified as in Mackintosh’s hand, with annotations by the architect as well as amendments showing later alterations to the house. The drawings now join the pre-eminent collection of work by Mackintosh at the Hunterian, where they will complement existing holdings of drawings for Auchinibert and provide valuable insight into the architect’s working process.
