It may have been painted in Derbyshire, while Frith, 26, and Isabelle, 23, were on their honeymoon. Frith later became famous for his impressive crowd scenes, such as The Derby Day and The Railway Station. The intimate portrait of Isabelle remained in the family until the 1930s. Frith was born in the Yorkshire district of Harrogate, and the painting now joins other works by the artist in the townÂ’s Mercer Art Gallery.
