A prolific painter of river scenes, Frederick Waters Watts exhibited this busy landscape, showing a working ferry near Henley, in an exhibition at the Royal Society of British Artists in 1839.

Newmans Auction, 1975 (as ‘from the collection of Porrington Jackson’); sold Sotheby’s 2007. An Art Loss Register search has been carried out.
