Cassells work entails a constant pushing at materials limitations, and this series is no different. Although they are hollow, the spheres are carved out of brick clay in places six or seven inches thick far thicker than is normally considered possible. The title refers to the notion of separate celestial bodies existing in a form of harmon,y and order and the relationships between the three spheres is central to the work. The sculptures will add to Leeds collection of leading studio ceramic artists and enable them to explore the interaction between sculpture and contemporary craft.
