Solid Air III is a subtle, beautiful and tactile sculpture made from veined, delicately coloured marble and a sturdy greenwood oak base.

The piece is one of a group begun in 2005 taking its inspiration from the five Platonic solids that are found in atomic, molecular and crystalline structures. The artist has explained the Solid Air series saying they evoke, 'solidified clouds, or planets swathed in multi-coloured vapours'. The work conveys a strong sense of tension between the inner and outer form, as if the underlying spheres are pushing against and stretching the surface ‘skin’ of the piece. Randall-Page studied sculpture at Bath Academy of Art and this sculpture is the first time the artist has been represented in the gallery's collection.
