This small painting conjures up the experience of landscape at a very particular time of day – a time just before dark that can often bring high drama – it is both the noise and the light that the imagery refers to that gives this painting such dynamic energy.

This work is the result of the Museum's participation in the Contemporary Art Society's Acquisition Scheme. This painting compliments the existing collection at Sunderland, in particular, works by Sheila Fell and Prunella Clough which explore emotionally-charged, atmospheric landscapes. L.S. Lowry’s symbolic seascapes, ‘Self Portraits1 & 2’, also share Magill’s introspection.
