A portrait of Nathaniel Godbold (circa 1730 – 1799), a notable herbalist associated with Godalming where he lived from about 1790 until his death in 1799.

Godbold was most famous for developing a ‘Vegetable Balsam’ from which he made his fortune. He bought Westbrook Place in Godalming which he re-modelled in Palladian style. This contemporary picture adds to the museum's collection of portraits of notable local residents and gives context to the documentation on Westbrook, which is still an imposing property in the area.
