Ai Weiwei is one of the most widely known and outspoken Chinese artists with multiple roles as conceptual artist, curator, critic, activist, designer and self-taught architect.

This installation consists of millions of individually handcrafted ceramic pieces resembling sunflower seeds, and is a legacy work derived from the Unilever Series: Ai Weiwei commission for Tate Modern's Turbine Hall. The artist has described the sunflower seeds as ‘millions of works’, each unique, thereby commenting on the relationship between the individual and the multitude or masses. This version contains approximately a tenth of the seeds from the original commission and can be presented as a floor based installation or in a conical form.
