Tacita Dean is the most important artist to have emerged from Falmouth Art School, and still regularly returns to Cornwall from her home in Berlin.

She continually stresses the importance of her time in Falmouth, Cornwall and the influence it had on her work. This series of drawings was inspired by the rare and historic Cornish Quoits, as well as the ancient granite stones that are prominent in the rugged Cornish landscape. The painted dolmens float isolated in space, their rockÂ’s texture emphasized like a planetÂ’s surface. They assume a kind of monumentality and presence not possible in the original photograph. By showing the three images in sequence the dolmens continue to rise, with the right-hand image about to disappear. This is the first time Dean's works will be represented in Falmouth's collections.
