A mace in the form of an oar with the arms of Boston and the date 1725, on the reverse the royal arms of Elizabeth I and the arms of the first Earl of Brownlow.

Includes an inscription and other decoration.

Provenance

The Corporation sold it to the Alderman Francis Thirkill in 1832; his widow presented it to the earl of Brownlow in 1840; in 1929 bt by William Randolph Hearst of St Donat's Castle.
