Synagogue ark elaborately carved, coloured and gilded in the Baroque style with Jewish emblems and a Hebrew text in Spanish lettering.
Made for the Venetian Ponentine congregation - the Spanish Portuguese refugees from the Inquisition.

Earls of Tankerville; the Chillingham Castle sale, 1932; Messrs Joseph, Mr Fersht, Harris and Sons from whom Mrs Ionides bought it for donation.
