This is the first work by the Japanese artist Kazuo to be acquired by a UK public collection.

Kazuo was the founder and leader of the Sodeisha group of avant-garde ceramicists and one of the most important names in the history of Japanese studio ceramics. It was made during a period when Yagi and his circle were pioneering the making of abstract sculptural ceramics in parallel with, though independently of, similar developments in the USA. The work is unglazed in order to present the form in a state of uncompromised purity.

Provenance

By descent to artist's son.
