Jo Budd is a leading British textile artist, whose work is artistically inspiring and technically brilliant.

She achieves a three-dimensional effect and movement by layering opaque and translucent fabrics and her placing of stitches creates a wave-like ripple in the silk. This work is one of 6 pieces from the ‘Lowestoft series’ which included 4 large pieces; three boats and an oil rig and 2 smaller pieces. This work is the only large piece to remain in Britain. Her inspiration is drawn from her surroundings and works in the Lowestoft series were inspired by the abstract industrial landscape and seascapes of this working coastal town. The museum collects quilts and related items from the British Isles to represent a broad range of styles, techniques and regional influences up to the present day.
