These paintings were once housed and displayed at 7 Chelsea Embankment, the home of avid Chinese, Korean and Near Eastern art collector George Eumofopulos.
Though he had intended to bequeath the collection to the nation, the Depression of the 1930s forced him instead to sell it to the nation at a preferential rate. The collection of 129 paintings includes Buddhist Trinity from Chihli, album of 11 paintings from the collection of Viceroy Tuan Fang. 'Hawks and Hound going after a Hare', 'Bird on a Bough', 'Two Bulls' and 'Second Incarnation of Yuan-tse' are Sung period. Buddhist paintings are from Korea and Siam (now Thailand).
