This monumental pot was made during a three month artist residency in China.

The piece represents a cross fertilisation between East and West in terms of techniques and tradition. Aylieff said, ‘Lotus Flowers reflects my love of these elegant and beautiful plants that I associate so strongly with China. It also reflects my interest in traditional imagery and the challenge for me was creating a contemporary translation’. Lotus Flowers continues Aylieff’s recurrent theme of blurring boundaries between ceramics and sculpture yet it represents a move away from her earlier ‘hands on work’. In this work she has collaborated with a pottery studio and used the skills of other technicians.
