Ravilious is one of the major components of the Fry Gallerys collection and he was one of the most gifted artists of his generation in wood engraving.

The Kynoch Press produced an annual notebook with decorations and Ravilious was asked to design the 1933 production. He planned that every other page of the notebook should have a small engraving as a heading relating to the season of the year and so appear snowflakes, pancakes and bare trees. They are also engravings done for the Golden Cockerel Press including 'Twelfth Night'. Many were set in Great Bardfield and the surrounding Essex countryside which gives us an added interest to this acquisition.
