This form of communion cup is peculiar to the North East of Scotland. Aberdeen Art Gallery has a prestigious collection of silver, ranging from 17th-century flatware and hollowware to unusual pieces by contemporary makers, but has nothing by Galloway, whose surviving work is extremely rare. This cup is one of a pair and the other one has been purchased by National Museums Scotland. It is proposed that the museums will work in partnership to ensure that both beakers are displayed together.
Turiff Parish Church since the 17th century.
